Some customers....

Post by Muts » Fri Sep 28, 2012 2:26 pm

24 foot box truck. Lettered 4 sides, and cab - 2 colors, lots of stuff...

Been floating designs back and forth last week and a half.

They finally decide, 2:00 Friday - " Looks great!, Can you get this done today?"

Isn't that rich. Did they hit you with the fast job $ down-charge?
You know why this situation of can we get it down right now came
about? You Dan are a sign painter of old like myself. I theorize
that this get it done right now syndrome came about with the
advent of the cell phone. Wasn't like this before if you remember.
Is this progress?

o it's get better...

so we bang out everything this morning, cut, weeded, taped. I start the cab doors. It's around 11am and one of their drivers show up...

" did they tell about the hood?" What? No... I continue with the work. Set up the ladders start the box.

I get a call

"is it done yet?" ehh no.
"We want to make change to the front of the box above the cab" WHAT?
"Please send over proof".

Now I am standing on the aluminum plank between 2 ladders...with squeegee and phone in hand. When the heck do you want that...ok whatever...I am little annoyed...

and hour later...

"We need an ETA and would it be possible to letter the cab doors on the new rack body, real quick."

No mention of the changes to the front/hood or email proof...which I haven't gotten to cause I am standing on the aluminum plank between 2 ladders...with squeegee in hand. OK Bring the rack truck over....which I get done...real quick. And Back to the Box Truck.

It's 5pm everything but the front of the box is done...it can wait I need the changes anyway. So i finally have time to shoot the "proof" over for the front. It's ok'd. I figure tomorrow.
I clean up and go home....once home I open my email and wouldn't you know it.

"stop the presses we need to change the front layout" ...again.

Needless to say I was told 2 months in advanced about this vehicle...

I theorize
that this get it done right now syndrome came about with the
advent of the cell phone.
yea Mark it might be. Cell phone, Internet. ME ME ME. On a whole everyone seems dumber...

That's quite a story Dan. I'm hoping you have this pain-in-the-but
customer out of the way by now. Let us know if they paid for the
the changes and promptly paid their bill. The thing is you just really don't see this type of customers' antics until you are into the job.
After waiting for two months they pull the 'we want it NOW' on
you. Tell us how you handled them at the end. Guess you'll
know better next time they come to you.

Isn't that something. They give you the bum's rush and then
take their sweet time to pick it up. Watch them send one of the
hands to pick it up and..........boss didn't give me a check.

it's happened...

last summer.

$3000.00 sign. The guy sends his son to pick it up, wants to stick it in the back of his truck.

No check. No cash, nada...

no no no....he sat around almost 2 hours...until someone brought a check down...

he then complained to me was gonna have trouble making "his" payroll...
