Something I came across was that if you jack up the lines per inch while printing a solid color the dot pattern gets really small, it's handy on smaller decals to take away the grainy look up close. I did this while using leaf green as a spot at 80% opacity to match a color and found that at 35lpi i...

What brand of cutter to buy?

I think I need a stand alone cutter to go with my DC4, I'm starting to get some more cut-only work and the DC4 isn't really up to the click and forget task of large runs.
What's everyone using and what would you all recommend for the best all-around machine in a 24" size?

I find that I need to build the file in my design software and then send it to the machine. Summa told me the software will not "Nest" the images and that I need to manually create the entire set of images and their placement.

It was the label on the outside had a part number 4200-3015-02 and listed it as 2.8mil calendered vinyl. Started searching the part number on Dogpile and it eventually took me to their site and lo and behold, that part number is an exact match for 30" intermediate

You can add FDC Ultracal 4200 intermediate...I mean uuuhhhh....... Summa Intermediate to the list, looks to be one and the same after some detective work on the internet. Summa should really splurge and spend money on new packaging instead of re-labelling somebody else's boxes.

Summa intermediate

Well I did some snooping and I think I've uncovered something here. Summa Intermediate vinyl is ( I think ) made by FDC Graphic Films, It's the Ultracal Intermediate 4200 series. A little decoding on the box led me there. Nothing against Summa but the local prices here are way out of line 30"X 50yds...

I use Illustrator CS2, I build the file in ai. format and then convert to eps. language level 3 and that's when the mystery marks seem to appear.

It was just a shot in the dark, sorry I couldn't be more help.

Contact the tech department from where ever you're buying it from and ask them. My sales guys said "Illustrator" the tech guy that set it up said "Corel"....end result? I got zero training in how to work with Illustrator and a Summa printer ( Do I STILL sound a bit bitter? ) Make SURE you get a list...

I've had things like that show up on my prints and it turned out to be a line that appears below text or a start point of text that didn't get used but the reference point or line still exist in the file. It doesn't show up when viewing the print on-screen but if I hit "select" "all" I'll see it ind...

Design software

Let's open a can of worms here, I'm wondering what you all are using for your design software. I'm currently running Adobe Illustrator CS2 and I'm learning that my DC4 is very sensitive to GIGO (Garbage in/ Garbage out) I'm finding more and more that the frustration quotient is more to blame on what...

I've found that once in awhile my files get screwy when I save an Illustrator file as an eps. file before sending it to color control. Double check the file in eps. for anything weird that appears before ripping it, including colors etc. Every time I find a glitch I can usually trace it back to my e...

I used the user config for the 24" premium and bumped up the cut pressure from 65 to 85grams, seems to work really well. The printing is just as good as what I get on premium.
