54" white vinyl choices

Looking for recommendations on 54" white vinyl for printing general signage and basic vehicle graphics. I used 3M IJ35C for years until production shifted to South America and the quality went south with it. Got talked into 3M 40C and loved the first roll, second roll was horrible....ugh. Living up ...

Re: IJ35C Beware

Thank you Sir: I appreciate the feedback and I happen to have some Nikkalite 48000 in white I've been wanting to try. I'll check out that Avery material, its pretty spendy up here.

Re: IJ35C Beware

Hey Muts…… Glad to see you're still monitoring the page :D What brand of vinyl are you printing to these days? I keep finding vinyls that work reasonably well for part of the roll then all hell breaks loose. I had some great results with Metamark MD3 and MD5 but the rolls were really inconsistent so...

IJ35C Beware

Just a heads up for anybody using 3M IJ35C on their machines. They've switched manufacturing facilities from wherever it was being produced to somewhere in South America and the quality has taken a big hit. I had to quit using it because of spoiled prints, the new 3M rolls have Spanish(?) printing o...

Re: Good thing the US and Canadian $$$$$ are even.

It's funny how anytime the US dollar gets stronger than the Canadian dollar, my supplier can justify a price increase but whenever things even out they don't seem to find a need to lower their pricing. It's not like that everywhere up here, these guys have a bad reputation of being expensive and abo...

Good thing the US and Canadian $$$$$ are even.

Just ordered a print head for my DC4, got a good 4 year run out of it. Summa USA sold me a print head for $1495.00 plus shipping.....just for fun I called my supplier here in Canada and even with the dollar at or above par, they still had the nerve to quote me $4152.00 for the same head.....plus ins...

Arlon GTX 4560 X-Scape ?
Yes, it's the same material, I thought I'd elaborate a little on how nice it is to use.

Arlon 4560GTX

I've been running a 54" roll of this stuff through my machine and so far so good. It has less gloss to it, almost a matte and the print quality looks great. It costs more than Orajet 3651 but I like the look better and it plays nicer with my DC4, on par with the Summa premium vinyl I got when I boug...

Re: Oracal Vinyl and the DC4

Been doing some experimenting with this "Double Density" setting in Printer Control. You can still alter the LPI and dot pattern in Color Control while this is on and I've found that using "Double Density" along with "Double Dot" in printer control and 35LPI gives some really nice results and the re...

Oracal Vinyl and the DC4

Boy, it sure pays to go back and read the owners manual after you've been running these things for awhile. There's a feature in "Printer Control" that's called Double Density which is designed to print on non-Summa approved materials. It has it's own set of default settings and works 100% as adverti...

Re: DC4 Experiment continues

I'm curious about how the speed is controlled for winding the ribbon. If the take-up roller in the cartridge runs at a constant RPM, the foil speed across the print head may be faster/slower depending on how much has been put on the take-up roll. This might also explain how cutting off the used foil...

DC4 Experiment continues

While doing battle with various vinyls I came across an interesting fix for those density wrinkles/ little white diagonal lines. Try bumping up your print speed to fast without touching any of the density settings. I have no idea why it works but I'm amazed at what a difference it makes.

Re: Don't try this.......

I see what you're talking about now, that's pretty cool stuff. It was a small run of stickers for a friend and he was after the glossy print look on matte vinyl that leaves the white background as a matte. Too much trouble for me, I told him it was glossy or nothing LOL. Thanks for the info though, ...

Re: Don't try this.......

I don't think overcoating will help a terrible print. It comes out like the opacity was set at 50%, the stuff just isn't smooth enough to work on the DC4

Don't try this.......

Had a customer ask me about decals printed on matte or semi-gloss vinyl and thought I'd give it a try...don't bother. You can't jack the density high enough to get anything decent, I was trying out a semi-gloss Oracal 3651 on my DC4.
