Flange Modification

Anyone modify their media flange so you could see how much is left on the roll? I was thinking a slot would be nice, but even a 3/4" hole would do the trick. What would really be nice is if the flanges were clear...

Summa Insight: Double Cut Hairline

Hola, everybody -- just wanted to pass on some info, for what it's worth. When creating a graphic in Adobe Illustrator if you use any modern effects (transparency, drop shadows) the resulting EPS will produce a double-cut when using Contour cutting (probably happens with FlexCut, too). The end resul...

Re: Summa printing help

Ah yes, the ribbon worms. Density is something that can certainly cause the worms or 'wrinkles' to show up. You might also check the ribbon itself -- if there's an uneven spot in the take-up roll it can cause the ribbon to feed skewed -- we had this happen on a spot color before. Solution is to cut ...

Low-tac or removable adhesive vinyl?

Anyone had success with something of this nature through their DC4? Summa doesn't offer anything, so I figured someone here might have experimented with a media that works.

Thanks!!

Re: Flat / matte vinyls

I tried, a while back, to print on matte vinyl -- the results were pretty poor (super blotchy color fields). I think it was on an Oracal, but that might not be right. If you have better results, let us know!

Re: OMG -- Something Crazy is Happening

Problem resolved -- somehow the document color profile got switched from CMYK to RGB. Because Red, Green, and Blue are 'protected' colors in this mode, when CC gets the file it discards anything named 'Red' -- that being said, if you call the spot color 'RED' or 'rEd' or 'reD' it will print fine. Th...

OMG -- Something Crazy is Happening

Ok, so, we've had our printer for around 4 years, and all this time I have been using the color name 'Red' in CS5 for spot printing Red (cassette id 5) -- just yesterday I attempted to print a file with spot Red, spot Golden Yellow, and spot Black -- the Golden Yellow and the Black printed, but the ...

Re: Anyone Weird printing issue with spot vs process colors

I have spoken to Summa tech support (great people!) about this -- I suggested that the user should be able to set specific ribbon colors for a particular User (media type) -- so, for instance, if you were printing on white vinyl you might select those ribbons you know work as OT colors (e.g. cyan, b...

Unusual Behavior with Large Prints (DC4sx) and workaround

Hi all -- just wanted to point out an oddity I discovered recently when printing a job on our DC4sx. The lcd screen on the printer normally shows between 26.3" and 26.5" as the print width for a 30" roll of vinyl. However, if all four of the following conditions are met: -- print document width is w...

Re: printing on coloured vinyl

Alright, some success! I was able to run a calibration on red (oracal 651) with black as the optitrack color -- cyan didn't lay down cleanly -- there was some roughness to the black linefeed calibration (the letters were not solid) but when I printed white it looked great -- no drop outs or streakin...

Re: printing on coloured vinyl

Ok, I tried black vinyl (oracal 651) with white as the opti-track color -- it printed the first band of the calibration beautifully --- unfortunately, it couldn't find the registration mark, and stopped after the first pass. You would only, from the looks of the one pass, need to lay down a single i...
